Insurance Claim Settlment
The common misconception about an insurance claim settlement is that they happen after the fact. The truth is insurance settlements are structured at the time the policy is purchased.
When you purchase the policy, you should first and foremost make sure the settlement will be structured per your needs should the risk or peril you are insuring against happens. If you don’t understand how you are covered, ask as many questions as you want until you completely understand the plan you are purchasing.
Once you know exactly what your insurance policy will and won’t cover, you can move on with your life. That way, you won’t be surprised when you need to make a claim.
You should keep all data, documentation and information in a safe place. This material could serve as proof in the event something happens. This is good for two reasons. Your insurance company will need as much information as they can get about what has happened in order to figure out how much compensation you are due as well as what will and will not be covered. This documentation is also helpful just in case you need to challenge any of the decisions that your insurance company makes.
Always read your policy to see what is and what is not covered. What is not covered is fully explained in a part of the policy called Exclusions. The policy is the document that contains the settlement rules and guidelines the insurance company will use when it comes time to make settlement. Read it so you know how much money you will receive should you have to file a claim.
Remember, the first step to filing and resolving an insurance claim for settlement is to have the right coverage in place. It is in your best interests to pay special attention to the exclusions part of the policy. It can be argued if something wasn’t listed in the exclusions it must be covered.
Assuming you have the right coverages in place for the peril you’ve experienced, you have all the proper documentation like photos for example, and you’ve paid your premiums, you’ll have no problem your receiving insurance claim settlement.
